Transitional Living Program

Girlstown's transitional living program, which is primarily for seniors, offers the girls a less structured home environment with fewer restrictions, more privileges, and higher expectations. Girls who master the routines of everyday living and who are ready for transition into more independent pursuits are able to move into a home designed to help them develop independence and more personal responsibility.

Girls are challenged with real-life experiences such as budgeting, apartment-style living (cooking, grocery shopping, etc.), college preparation and job skills development. Residents purchase and prepare their own meals, work or volunteer off campus and save sufficient funds to begin successful independent adult life after graduation. Privileges include, but are not limited to, inviting off-campus dinner guests, attending church in a nearby community, seeking off-campus employment if available, and owning a vehicle.

Scheduled seminars provide a more in-depth focus on issues that will be faced on a daily basis, including job skills and employment, car buying, income tax preparation, budgeting and consumer credit counseling, nutrition, menu planning and meal preparation, banking, health care and housing.
