Spiritual
Anchored on Christian principles, the chapel programs provide opportunities for girls to grow spiritually. The Chapel program is Christ-centered and strength based. It is non-denominational and models an honest respect for diversity and it is designed to expose the campus to a variety of Christian worship styles and perspectives while affirming the right and responsibility of every individual to respond to God in their own way, in their own time.
Two full-time chaplains minister to the needs of the girls. The Christ-centered, non-denominational approach incorporates Bible teaching, music and theatrical performance.
The ministries for residents to participate in include: choir, the praise team, musical ensembles and solos, clowns, theatrical ministry, skits, puppets, prayer, benevolence, off-campus ministry with community churches, mission trips, and service projects.
During the year, the Chapel Music ministry engages girls who are artistically inclined and enjoy performing drama and music. The girls perform on the Girlstown campus and at area senior citizen's homes and other venues. The Chapel also produces a Christmas program each year that incorporates a variety of music and drama.
Each child is encouraged to become actively involved in youth-oriented services on campus, as well as in more traditional worship formats at local community churches. Other spiritual activities may include attending youth rallies and participating in summer church camp.
Youth Engaged in Service (YES)
Residents also participate in life-enhancing, leadership-building activities through Girlstown's Youth Engaged in Service (YES) program. The key word is ‘service.’ YES helps girls understand that, in order to be productive members of the community, one must be willing to serve others. Through YES, girls volunteer to participate in a variety of community service projects such as Special Olympics, visits to local senior citizen's homes, and working with Ronald McDonald House, the Red Cross and the local food bank.
As described by the girls and staff, volunteering at the local Special Olympics is one of the neatest opportunities for our girls. They truly have a heart for the participants. It’s about helping others – giving, sharing, loving, and caring. They see that life is much fuller while serving others.
