Meet A Resident

Nadine is a resident at Girlstown, U.S.A. She shared a previous Christmas experience while living at Girlstown, U.S.A.:

“Ever since I came to Girlstown, I’ve known I was going to have fun! Nothing anybody told me would have let me understand how awesome Christmas would be though.

I was raised by a non-Christian family and never really celebrated Christmas, but in 2005 I realized what the “Christmas Spirit” is all about. Every girl in my house was so excited about opening their presents, even our caseworker stayed late to open hers with us.

Our house parents, the Martins, love to play jokes and tricks on us girls, so when they told us we had been having unacceptable behavior and had to wait until after our visits to open gifts, we all just looked at one another and laughed, running, to sit by the tree.

I never knew what it meant when they said “The Spirit of Christmas”.

When a girl in my cottage got a gift I knew she wouldn’t like, I got ready for the biggest hissy-fit ever, but all I saw was a delayed smile and then the brightest smile ever!!

Even if the girls in my cottage didn’t like their gifts they still didn’t complain, because they knew that the house parents had spent a long time, a lot of money, and their hearts on our gifts.

Now that is true Christmas Spirit.”
