Girlstown History
Amelia Anthony founded Girlstown, U.S.A. in 1949 when she opened a temporary shelter for girls at Buffalo Gap, Texas. In July of that same year Thomas B. Duggan, a rancher in Lubbock, Texas, donated 1,425 acres of land a few miles south of Whiteface, Texas. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Anthony and her nine girls took up residence.
Girlstown, U.S.A. became an affiliate of Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in 1987. At the time, Girlstown, U.S.A. operated two campuses: the main campus in Whiteface, and another campus near Borger, Texas.
