A Day in the Life at Girlstown

I just happen to be one of the biggest procrastinators that you will probably ever meet – starting at 6:00 a.m. in the morning when my alarm goes off. (I try to snooze it as much as possible before I really have to get up.) Mornings are so hectic, but I always try to start my day off right by praying. Life is my job. God gave me the air I breathe for a purpose, and I daily try to seek it, some days more than others, I will confess, but hey, everyone has their “wrong side of the bed” days.

Preceding my time of prayer and devotional time, I walk sleepily toward the kitchen to have a bowl of cereal and a huge cup of juice. (Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.) After breakfast I run to my room, try to do something with my impossible hair, get dressed, make sure I have all of my school things and eventually run out of the door to the bus. Wow, this is only 2 hours into my day, and it’s already been extremely busy.

Here comes the best part of my day – school. Learning is one thing that I have always treasured. Life is amazing because even when you’re not in school you learn something new every day. School is a job for me also. I consider school as a smaller, less expensive mission trip. It’s a time to let God shine in my life… a time to witness… a time to show my love for my savior Jesus Christ. Eight periods a day, 200 people to show the love that we all long to know. After school is over, I run to the bus, unless it’s a Wednesday, and I have remediation.

Tuesdays are special; band practice is on Tuesdays. I love band. Music has always been a way to express myself to others. Whether it be singing in church, or begging my chaplain to teach me how to play the bass guitar. The Whiteface band is amazing and I am so glad to be a part of it.

After school, I go to work. I work at the Girlstown kitchen, but soon I will be able to obtain an off-campus job. Work is fun at times, but like everything else it has its trying times. I love my job. The heat of the kitchen isn’t always so great, but I learn a lot about cooking and sanitary precautions that our cooks have to take to make sure everyone eats a safe, delicious meal.

After work, I come home and do homework. As a senior taking a lot of weighted classes, I have a lot. Once it is all done though, I enjoy a hot shower, a good book, Bible time, and then my wonderful pillow. Good night!
