Transitional Living

The Transitional Living program teaches independent living skills designed to increase a resident's level of personal responsibility. The entire child care team is involved in helping a child acquire appropriate decision-making skills, preparing each one to become balanced and productive adults.

The first objective is to achieve competency in basic life skills necessary for daily functioning. House parents take an active teaching role in helping residents acquire these skills. Residents are expected to complete chores, take care of personal belongings, maintain appropriate peer and staff relationships, complete school assignments, manage a campus checking account and fulfill job requirements.

A Life Skills Program teaches all residents valuable skills in the following areas: money management, food management, personal appearance and hygiene, health, housekeeping, transportation, educational planning, job seeking skills, job maintenance skills, emergency/safety, community resources, and interpersonal and legal skills.
