Extracurricular

The boys and girls balance academic and work schedules with numerous extra-curricular activities that reward teamwork, sportsmanship, hard work and determination.

School-related activities include athletics, cheerleading, drama, music and student organizations such as FFA, 4-H, SkillsUSA and Family Careers and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).

Participants in the horsemanship program, Honor Patrol and Rodeo experience the western tradition first hand.

Residents may apply to serve on the Boys Ranch Volunteer Fire Crew. The youth members on the fire crew train and work alongside certified adult fire crew members in order to learn the various techniques required to fulfill their responsibilities safely and efficiently.

Many other programs Boys Ranch offers allow the youth to learn and grow in leadership roles. These opportunities help create an inner discipline and self-reliance that is imbedded in our values system. The Youth Leadership Organization (YLO) is just one of several organizations that provide opportunities for gaining leadership skills. YLO encourages initiative, teaches responsibility and provides opportunities to make recommendations for policy and to plan and carry out campus activities or events, as well as for participants to represent Boys Ranch during off-campus events.
