Luther Bud Joyner

Dr. Luther Bud Joyner has served on the Cal Farley’s board since 1997. He earned his Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL, with a major in Higher Education Administration, as well as a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Science from West Texas State University with majors in English.

Dr. Joyner’s CEO experience includes the following: 1999-Present, Partner--Executive Resource Consulting Service; 2002-2003, President, Amarillo College; 1999-2001, CEO, Virtual College of Texas; 1992-1999, President, Amarillo College, Amarillo, TX ; 1985-1992, President, Cooke County College, Gainesville, TX.

Dr. Joyner currently serves on the following boards: Amarillo College Foundation, Mary E. Bivins Foundation, Cal Farley’s, and Lake Tanglewood Board of Directors. He has received the following special honors: President Emeritus, Amarillo College; Chief Executive Officer Award, Association of Community College Trustees, Western Region, 1998; Cooke County Citizen of the Year; Twice named to Phi Theta Kappa Texas Hall of Fame; Phi Theta Kappa Lifetime Achievement Award.

Alan was elected to the Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch and Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch Foundation Boards in 2000.  He served as Vice Chairman of the Boys Ranch Board for two years and most recently as Chairman from 2004 through 2007. 

Now a financial consultant, Alan retired from Merrill Lynch after 42 years.  He received a degree in Business from the University of Oklahoma and currently serves as a member of the President’s Associates Council.  His passion for education is also reflected in membership on the Board of the Amarillo College Foundation.  In addition, Alan has donated his time and talents as a Board member and President of numerous civic, medical, and children’s organizations.  He served eight years in the U.S. Army Reserve, achieving the rank of Captain. 

Alan and his wife Sandie have two children and four grandchildren.
