A perfect 10 for Boys Ranch
Boys Ranch qualifying for a state meet is like McDonald’s serving french fries.
Yeah, it’s going to happen.
Led by senior Joe Teachout’s sixth-place effort (17:08.39), Boys Ranch won the Region I-1A cross country meet on Saturday, qualifying for the state meet for the 10th straight year.
Except for Teachout, youth was served with sophomore Jacob Myers (13th), sophomore Jorge Cruz (29th), freshman Devin Razo (46th) and sophomore Andrew Pacino (65th) scoring the points in the dominating win.
Boys Ranch finished with 65 points, easily outdistancing second place Bovina (108) and third place Hartley (109).
Boys Ranch coach Kenneth Brown was brought to tears by the effort.
“Because I love these guys,” Brown said of crying. “They are a team. A real team and good kids. Almost all of them improved their times by more than a minute from the last time we ran here. They have heart.”
Teachout said Brown was the reason for their 10th straight state appearance.
“Coach Brown,” Teachout said. “He works us hard and he knows what he is doing. He really does love us. He takes us in like we are his own kids. We know that and love him for it. This is our goal every year to go to state. This year we have a chance to win it.”
